The Billy Steel Dark Blues
BSDB Background
The Billy Steel Dark Blues (BSDBs) were originally an informal grouping of Dundee fans who met in the Fisherman’s Tavern in Broughty Ferry for a pint (or Drambuie) before home matches.
At the start of the 1999/2000 season the Supporters Club was formally constituted with the aim of the Club to be family friendly and support DFC both financially and spiritually.
The formation of the BSDBs was timed just right for the resultant upsurge in support that was to take place at the end of that season with the commencement of the Bonetti era. For many the highlight of that period will be the 2003 Scottish Cup run when the BSDBs took over 300 fans to the ultimately fruitless final against Rangers.
From the beginning in 1999, and through the troubled times of administration (twice) to today, the BSDBs have raised over £15,000 for Dee4Life/DFCSS, DFC and Youth Development.
Although DFC are still in the SFL First Division, the high anticipation of eventual promotion to the SPL remains and this has seen membership numbers remaining strong. The BSDB is one of DFC's largest supporters’ clubs and the strong loyalty that has existed from day one remains in order to ensure that DFC receive the support necessary for the Club to regain its rightful place amongst Scotland’s elite clubs.
In keeping with it’s Broughty Ferry roots, the BSDB are linking with the Occidental Bar to use this pub as it’s Broughty Ferry base. Buses to away games will now leave from this venue and it is planned that Committee meetings and social events will also be held there.
